Our History

Hestia is the name of the Greek Goddess of Hearth and Home. When Hestia Creations first started in 1986, we wanted our name to reflect the fact that most of our employees were working mothers.  Some of those original employees are still here, and most of Hestia’s employees are still working moms.

How did Hestia Creations get started?

Hestia’s early products included the Companions Nativity figurines and Christmas ornaments.  Later, we added limited edition ceramic plates, depicting Marblehead scenes.  The first town ornament was, of course, a Marblehead ornament.  We sold our products to retail customers out of a small store.

We are very fortunate to be located in a very historic town (established in 1629), but we have learned over the years that there are many, many beautiful towns across the United States, and local pride is stronger than ever.  Hestia has created AmeriScape ornaments of towns from Maine to Alaska – in fact, over 3,500 different designs to date – in addition to all the other custom products we create.

An Interview with Hestia’s Owner

It all starts with a sketch from a photograph. A Hestia artist hand sketches the design that will become a unique memento.Joanne D’Alessandro and her husband Al took over Hestia Creations in 2004.

“We like to say we’re experts in collectible memories,” says Joanne.  Coming from a background in medical research, Hestia has been a new and exciting adventure for her.  “Hestia’s philosophy is simple: we take the same care in creating our artwork that people take in celebrating their event.  We respect that same memory throughout the entire artistic process.

“The artistic process is a collaborative effort, without a doubt.  It’s a true honor to work with such a talented, fun and dedicated team,” Joanne observes  “The best compliment I ever received was from a business next door – they said there is always laughter coming from Hestia.  That’s such a wonderful thing.”

The ornament is poured into a mold that has been sculpted by hand.

Once the mold is ready, a Hestia artisan hand paints the design.

Custom design can also be created on ceramics.
